WORLD WONDERS THE PYRAMIDS

World Wonders the Pyramids is a comic article about the Pyramid of Giza. The Pyramid of Giza is a 139m tall pyramid and is made from white limestone. This article is a secondary source as it is a visual article that was made after Ancient Egypt. This source is in full of colour which is appealing to the eye and is from a kids website, meaning that it is easy to understand.

World Wonders the Pyramids is a factual informative article which shares information on the pyramid of Giza and demonstrates an aspect of Ancient Egyptian life as it shows how the Ancient Egyptians live and what the pyramids purpose are. While using a comic, the author has included scientific research and information on the pyramid of Giza making it a useful source.

LIMESTONE

Title: Limestone

This primary source, is a piece of evidence that has been discovered in the land of Ancient Egypt. Limestone is made partly by chemical processes. Limestone rock, found and used in Ancient egypt is also formed from the cementation of sand and mud which allows the rock to have different appearances and shapes but also the texture. It is a sedimentary rock, consisting of more than 50% calcium carbonate. The limestone rock, is generally seen as as light coloured rock which differs in its shape and size.

Limestone is an enormous rock which was used and classified as a construction material. In Egypt thousands of years ago, limestone was the main source of material which constructed and pieced together tombs and pyramids. It was one of the easiest and most efficient natural resources. It was readily available and a precious material, built to last forever.

THE MUMMIFICATION PROCESS

The Mummification Process, Florida, USA

The Mummification Process is a very long process which involves time and patience. There are ten steps involved in the mummification and is a seventy day process. The source on the Mummification process is a secondary source as it is a information report on what the mummification process is and how it works. It originated in the USA and explains the process after an Ancient Egyptian dies.

This source demonstrates an aspect of Ancient Egyptian life as it is in preparation for the burial and afterlife. Throughout Ancient Egypt, people believed that there was life after death and together they all continued the same process for each death. The Mummification Process displays the Ancient Egyptian rituals and habit, as well as demonstrating the mummification process.

UNKNOWN MUMMIFIED PERSON

Title: Unknown Mummified Person

Unknown Mummified Person, is a primary source of a mummified person from Ancient Egypt. Throughout the mummification process these people are wrapped in layers of linen cloth. The linen is a natural source and is found in different Ancient colours, generally being a red, brown or yellow colour. Since Ancient Egyptians are just like any other human, they are roughly the same size. The average size of a mummy is 161cm.

Mummification demonstrates an aspect of Ancient Egyptian life as the Egyptians believed that in order to be successful and arrive into the afterlife, the physical bodies are very sacred and important. This is a very long process, but in return, the Ancient Egyptians must have been very gentle and show respect around the body in order for the body to have a long journey into the afterlife.

Macgregor Plaque

Title: MacGregor Plaque

Origin: Tomb of King Den, Egypt

The MacGregor Plaque, representing the Ancient Egyptian King, King Den, is a primary source which has been identified and exposed in the tomb of King Den. This particular artefact is a 4.5cm x 5.4cm carving which is made of carved ivory. Also, it is 0.2cm thick and has King Den displayed on the front.

In this carving, an aspect of Ancient Egyptian everyday life is displayed as it presents the history of Ancient Egypt and the way the Kings and royals worked. These carvings represent the importance and efficiency of not only Kings, but leaders and role models who will do anything to protect the people of their culture. King Den, an Ancient Egyptian King, shows his power in the source as the MacGregor Plaque represents him as a fighter who will defend his land.

STATUETTE OF GOD SEKHET

Title: Statuette of God Sekhet

The Statuette of God Sekhet, is a primary source which has been discovered in Ancient Egypt. This artefact consists of a rough limestone and is a light brown colour. This specific Statuette of God Sekhet was a very meaningful statue to the Ancient Egyptians.

This significant source, is an aspect of the Ancient Egyptian everyday life as it was a statue which was worshipped by the Ancient Egyptians and is loved as she was a God. This means that she was viewed as royal and was respected as she accomplished a substantial amount to keep Ancient Egypt safe. This particular limestone Statuette is very significant and is a seated statuette which is designed in the style of the Saite Era.

MUD BRICKS

Title: Mud Bricks

Mud Bricks in Ancient Egypt were a needed resource to produce stable and safe houses many years ago. This Primary source is a fragment of what the houses of Ancient Egypt were made of. The material of which they are built of is called “Mud Bricks”. Mud Bricks are a oblong blocks of mud which is mixed together with chopped straw and little grains of sand. When the bricks are being produced they are an average size being; 8.7 x 4.3 x 5.5 CM, and when left in the sunshine, moulds in to a solid, hard wood.

Throughout Ancient Egypt, Mud Bricks were used to construct houses for the residents and were used for every wall throughout the building. This specific brick provided an inexpensive and efficient building material which made the building stable and safe to live in. Ancient Egyptians were able to produce between 1000 to 1800 mud bricks in a day, with the natural resources available and the efficient weather conditions.

SYMBOLIC NECKLACE

This Symbolic Necklace of Ancient Egypt, is a necklace made from beads using symbolic colours and patterns. This artifact is a primary source was worn by Egyptians during the Ancient periods. All jewelry in Ancient Egypt were designed differently, varying in size and shape, They are decorated with specific symbols that have a powerful meaning and significance. Whether it is a necklace or bracelet, each are made of different materials such as stone, metal, beads, clay, shells and animal findings.

In Ancient Egypt, jewelry was not only worn by women but men too. With both, men and women being able to wear all types of jewelry, wearing it everyday as part of their natural fashion styles. As jewelry is sold individually in Ancient Egypt they all have different meanings and purposes. They are each decorated differently depending on its value, including diverse symbols with important significance in various colours and materials.

PAPYRUS SHOES

In Ancient Egypt, fashion was a main way for people to determine others wealth and lifestyle. The pair of shoes is a primary source. These shoes are made of Papyrus which was a common material for shoes in Ancient Egypt. If Papyrus was unavailable, leather was also used. With Ancient Egyptians living in a very hot and dry climate, they wore very thin clothing. Egyptians clothing was usually designed and made of linen which is a natural material. It was easily accessible for the fashion designers. The majority of clothing worn was a light colour ranging from a white to yellow as it was too hot to be wearing darker colours. If the Ancient Egyptians did not wear the leather or papyrus shoes they then tended to go without shoes and be barefoot.
