The timeline of how the Nazi party gained power in Germany
A description of the main ideas of the Nazi party
An explanation of how these ideas impacted on people living in Germany
Jewish people: The approximately 500 000 Jews living in Germany (almost 0.77% of the population) soon began to feel the force of Nazi Antisemitism. The coming to power of Adolf Hitler and the NSDAP ( National sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiter partei), saw the beginning of a process in which Jews were excluded from German society, bullied and persecuted. Although it was slowed down at times for reasons of tactics and international politics, the aim of this process was the destruction of Jews.
Young People: The Nazi party positioned themselves as the party of youth against age, offering young people a role to play in the movement. The youth wing of the Nazi party, grew from 100,000 in 1932 to 3.5 million two years later. By 1939 membership was compulsory for boys, while girls had to join the sister organisation, the league of German maidens.
