Taj Mahal

An important piece of Islamic architecture is the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal was made in 1631. It was made by Shah Jahan for his third and favorite wife. His wife had died giving birth to their fourteenth child. The Taj Mahal is a tomb where the emperor Shah Jahan and his wife were buried. It took over 20 years for the Taj Mahal to be completely finished. The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous pieces of Islamic architecture in the world. The monument is remarkable for its size and graceful form. The Taj Mahal combines elements of Persian, Indian, and Islamic design. The white marble of the central tomb changes color with the daylight. If you get up close, you can see the Taj Mahal decorated with Arabic Calligraphy and inlays of semiprecious stones. The Alhambra

This is the Alhambra. It had showed it in the video before. The Alhambra is on a hill overlooking the Spanish city of Granda. The Alhambra is a palace, that was built by princes belonging to the Muslim Nasrid Dynasty. Many parts of the Alhambra have been destroyed, there are only three parts that remain today. The three parts that remain are a fortress, a princelyresidence, and a cluster and pavilions and gardens, that are known as the Genaralife. The rooms and the outside courtyards of the Alhambra are decorated with colorful tiles, carved stucco, calligraphy, and carved wood. There are some remarkable ornamental features that are carved into the walls surrounding the Court of the Lions with geometric stalactite designs. About Islamic Architeture

Islamic architecture is one of the greatest forms of Islamic art forms. There are different patterns, designs, and features in Islamic architecture. Islamic style is seen in mosques, as well as Muslim houses and gardens. A traditional Islamic house is built around a courtyard and shows only a wall with no windows to the street outside. The common courtyard Islamic structure provides space that is both outside, but within the building as well. Islamic buildings are often highly decorated and color is often key feature. Most of the decoration is reserved for the inside. Often, the only exterior that is detailed is usually only the entrance and the dome. Religious buildings will often use geometry to symbolic effects. In the next slide, there is a video about the different patterns and geometry used in Islamic architecture.
