Although the crusades did bring many positive things to western Europe, they also brought a deadly plague known as the black death. This plague wiped out over one third of western Europe.
Crusades' Conquests
After the black death, the population reduced drastically. This effected the feudal system and the land area. As a short term solution the crusades sent their military to go out and conquer areas to build up their population again.
Positive effects of the Crusades
Not everything that the crusades brought was negative. They were able to spread their religion and culture, they improved technology, and they opened up trade.
Political Impacts
The crusades did not only bring trade and goods, they were also able to break down the feudal system by giving import to kings and certain people.
Universities
Although there were not many books or supplies, universities during the middle ages taught students liberal arts or theology.
Gender Roles
Although women usually managed manor accounts, men still believed that women should not get an education.
Guilds
Guilds were used to regulate rules for apprenticeships, helped families with injured or killed workers, and exercised some degree of control.
Changes in agriculture
Population growth resulted in decrease in farmlands, which led to a decrease of food.
Renaissance
The renaissance began after the plague, most people in this were soldiers returning from the crusades.
Renewed interests
During the renaissance , there was a renewed interest in ancient Greek and roman art.
