The cold war began after WW2. It started because Americans feared communist attacks. The cold was lasted about 45 years.
The Bay of Pigs
The bay of pigs was a failed invasion on Cuba. It happened on 17 April 1961. The United States wanted to kill Castro for communism.
The Cuban Missile Crisis
This was also known as the October Crisis of 1962. This crisis lasted 13 days between the United States and the Soviet Union. This began when the soviet union started building missile sites in Cuba.

Kennedy gave the “okay” for the invasion of the bay of pigs. Khrushchev and kennedy secretly negotiated the removal of cuban missiles in exchange for the removal of American missiles in Turkey. However the Turkish missiles were kept secret.

Khrushchev led the soviet union during the cold war. He was the First Secretary of the Communist Party from 1953-1964. He was also Chairman of the Council of Ministers from 1958 to 1964.
Third World Countries
First world countries are countries of the developed west. The Soviet union wanted to spread communism to these third world countries. Neither the soviet union or the U.S. could dominate the third world countries.
The H bomb
Also know as the Hydrogen Bomb, Was created in 1950 by Edward Teller. The First H bomb was used by the U.S in 1952. The soviets used their first H bomb in 1952 as well.
Fallout Shelters
Fallout shelters were created by Americans to keep them safe from The H bombs in the 1950's. The Americans created Pamphlets and commercials like "Duck And Cover" to show Americans how to survive during a crisis. Fallout shelters were at least 3 feet under ground.
