Fritz Lang was the director of Metropolis (1927). He began his career as a scriptwriter, but soon moved on to directing. Most of Lang's silent films were classics. Metropolis was one of the first creative big-budget film, exploring beyond where any previous filmmaker had ventured. The results were mixed. Metropolis cost over 5 million marks to produce, and bankrupted its studio. Some of the scenes from Metropolis are among the most memorable visions in cinema history. Lang fled Germany in 1933 and by 1936 he was in Hollywood directing films direct films.

F.W. Murnau was the director of “Nosferatu” which was originally made in 1922. F. W. Murnau was one of the most creative German film directors of the silent film era and was a famous figure in the expressionist movement in German cinema during the 1920s. He created the 1922 vampire thriller "Nosferatu" as well as many other classicfilms. He was born in 1888 but sadly Murnau's promising career was cut short by a car accident in 1931 and he died aged 42.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” (1919)
Werner Krauss plays the title character, a sinister hypnotist who travels the carnival circuit displaying a somnambulist named Cesare. A series of murders coincides with Caligari's visit. When the best friend of hero Francis is killed, the deed seems to be the outgrowth of a romantic rivalry over the hand of the lovely Jane. Francis suspects Caligari, but he is ignored by the police. Investigating on his own, Francis seemingly discovers that Caligari has been ordering the somnambulist to commit the murders, but the story eventually takes a more surprising direction.

She had made several silent films but “The Blue Angel” was her first talkie (talking picture). She was the icon of world cinema and fashion. She was an incomparable movie star and singer and still remains a symbol of glamour today. She was born in Schöneberg, 1901 and died in Paris, France in aged 90.
