Major cause of the civil war

Lincolns emancipation allowed for African American to enlist in the army. During the civil war, this was the a all-black regiment in U.S, Led by Robert Wagner. The 54th regiment played a crucial role in the attack on fort Wagner proving skeptics if soldiers were given the chance to fight, they would do so bravely. Even though they didn't take over fort Wagner it was a real morale booster for the whole army. Consisted over about 600 soldiers.

Massachusetts 54th regiment

Abram Lincoln was the 16th American president. He served from 1861 to 1865. Lincoln upset a lot of the southerners as he was anti-slavery and wanted to free the slaves. His election was a major factor in the south leaving the union. The southern economy was immensely angered by this and wanted him dead. This lead to his death, where John Wilkes Booth assassinated him. He delivered famous speeches such ass the Gettysburg address, "four score and seven years ago." He led America through one of its bloodiest war and its greatest, constitutional and political crisis. He also emancipated all slaves in the confederacy.

Abraham Lincoln

Slaves had finally been released from the cold shackles of slavery. With that newly earned freedom came all of the rights of an American citizen. Cotton could no longer be mass produced in the South, and their economy collapsed. Meanwhile, the northern economy flourished and began industrializing for the future. African Americans could now be involved in politics having a seat in every government. Not everything was great for the new African american citizens though, as racism still a very popular opinion.This also made a lot of Southerners very angry, causing them to act out.

Major effect the civil war had on America

The Souths economy after the civil war was completely destroyed. The slaves were freed and their was no one to do the plantation work. This resulted in the southerners lashing out and being racist towards black people. They decided to pass the Jim Crow laws to limit the rights of black people, and even assassinated Abraham Lincoln! Meanwhile the North did very well after the war. Since the majority of the war wasn't fought on their side not much damage was done to them. Their economy became very industrial witch started the big businesses and monopoly's of industry.

Economic changes after civil war.

African Americans now had an equal status with their former slave owners. The Southern society was unhappy, Copperheads obstructed war and made drafts against Lincoln, Eventfully getting him assassinated. Southerns created the Jim Crow laws as they still wanted White superiority. Freedman Bureau was also created to help the former slaves, witch was one of the Only attempts to do so.

Political changes from civil war

Racism was spreading like a wildfire in the south. There were constant lynchings, threats, and segregation to black people. The South also blocked the African Americans right to vote with things as literacy test and poll taxes they were also threatened. The South had a really hard time accepting black people into society. The North and South hated each other for what the North did to the south's economy resulting in the copperheads to create the Jim Crow laws. The North wanted to let all the southern states back into the union, but some of the confederate states did not feel the same way.

Social changes through civil war

North and South couldn't decide on the issue of slavery for a long time. The North thought that slavery was wrong and immoral while the South needed the slaves for their economy, and they also felt they should be Superior to African Americans. They couldn't come up with a peaceful solution to the issue, so it resulted in war.

Battle of Gettysburg

Robert Lee takes a great gamble and launches an all or nothing into the union lines. One of the bloodiest battles of the war 30% of the armies were destroyed at Gettysburg. Lincoln ordered Gen George Meade to finish off the confederacy but he didn't. This was a union victory but the confederacy still remains.

Battle of Vicksburg

General U.S. Grant wins a major victory in the West by capturing the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Union has successfully captured the Miss. River and divided the South in half. U.S grant . U.s grant is rewarded and is seen as a hero and Abraham highly regards him.

Battle of Chancellorsville

This battle is a loss for the union. But they also win because Stonewall Jackson dies. Robert E lee is devastated. Lee orders and attack to try to devastate North morale and support.
