Essential question - In what ways did the United States change economically, politically, and socially. An example for economic that changed the US was the North and South inflation. The Inflation isn’t an increase in money, it is a decrease on how much the money is worth. In the North there was about a 80% inflation rate which affected taxes on tobacco and alcohol, on factory materials etc. In the South the inflation rate was 9,000% which caused the paper money to be worth only 1.6 cents. That affected a lot of taxed things in the south but even more than what the north had. This changed the US because in an economic way because it changed the way paper money was worth due to the war and it also had affected taxes. An example for social was the Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1st, 1863 by President Lincoln. This proclamation said that all slaves should be free. When this was issued Britain and France didn’t want to support the war anymore because they were against that Proclamation. This changed the US in a Social way because it affected the slaves and it led Britain and France away and now they might feel a different way about the US. For slaves it really benefited them because they take up a large portion of the population for the south. An example for pPolitical was the writ of Habeas Corpus. The writ of Habeas Corpus allowed anyone to have the right for a court trial. Which was a good thing at first until on September 24th. On that day Lincoln had suspended this writ-act. ThatWhich then allowed the military to be able to arrest any civilians that made a crime instead of having the court trial first. This changed the US in a political way because it involved the military, president, and the court, which falls under the political category. It also affected how thing happened in the sense of laws when someone would commit a crime.
