These people are protesting about gold mining because it is causing pollution and poisoning our ocean and and animals.

This image is of an open mine, it is very dirty and dusty. When it is not needed any more It will be filled up with acidic water after it is not needed. The acidic water can harm humans and animals.

This is what the goldfields looked like before the gold rush. Green Lush land, clear fresh cooling water and shady nice refreshing trees. After the gold rush there was none of this. It was dirty brown mucky water and chopped trees.
Poison
This is Mercury. It is used when they need to remove the gold from the quartz. It is poisonous to animals and humans. It is found in water at abandoned mines along with many other poisons.
