A SIGNIFICANT INDIVIDUAL
Geoffrey Chaucer 1343- 1400
Geoffrey Chaucer is a significant individual who is an English poet and was born in 1343 and died on 25 October 1400. He was married to Philippa de Roet, the sister-in-law of Chaucer’s greatest patron, John of Gaunt.
HIS LIFE JOURNEY
Geoffrey managed to obtain a position as a page to the countess of Ulster, serving mainly as a servant and messenger.
Chaucer was sent to fight for England with Edward III.
He was promoted from his status as a page to the countess of Ulster to be a valet to the king of England.
Chaucer was elected as Justice of the Peace for the region of Kent and became a Knight of the Shire.
The Canterbury Tales/ His Writing
The English poet and author, Geoffrey Chaucer, Universally recognised as the most renowned English poet of the Middle Ages, is best known for The Canterbury Tales. These tales were written between 1387- 1400 when he died. It is a collection of 24 books and 17, 000 lines written in Middle English.
Geoffrey Chaucer influenced many people and had a major impact on their lives through his poem writing as a cause of writing in English and not the powerful language of French.
