Standards chosen

For my project, I chose standard two. Standard two is about how animals meet their need in response to their environments. In other words, how do they survive? For this part of the project, I chose to focus on the Green Anoles (from class), the Cuttlefish, and the Cheetah.

I also chose standard four because it was required. Standard four is explaining how humans can adapt to living in changing habitats.

I chose this picture of ecosystems because it explains how animals have to adapt to their environment in order to survive.

Green anoles

The Green Anoles live in habitats with very high humidity such Florida, North Carolina and Texas. The types of habitats usually involve swamps, forests, wooded beaches and other areas with lots of trees.

One way they protect themselves in their environment is that they change color because of changes in temperature, humidity, health, and mood. What most people do not know is that they do not change color to blend into its background. Another way that the Green Anoles have adapted to their environment is that they have evolved traits that can make them climb trees better, in response to an aggressive competitor.

I chose this picture because it shows how the Green Anoles change color in order to best "hide" themselves from predators.

I chose this picture because it shows how the Green Anoles have adapted to their environments in the bushes and trees. In response to an invasive competitor, like the Brown Anoles, the Green Anoles have evolved their traits to make them climb better and faster.

One behaviors of the Cuttlefish is that they typically spend the winter in deep water and move into shallow coastal waters to breed in the spring and summer.

One of the adaptations to survive is the ability to camouflage in order to hide from predators. This is why I chose this picture! The Cuttlefish has adapted to it's environment by creating extremely elaborate effects for protection and evading predators.

The Cuttlefish

The reason I chose this picture of the Cuttlefish is because it is watching for predators in the shallow water. I believe the Cuttlefish is in shallow water, presumably in the spring or summer, in order to hatch their eggs.

This picture can also be an example of how the Cuttlefish go to elaborate lengths to keep themselves and the other Cuttlefish safe.

The Cheetah

Cheetahs have adapted to their environments in order to protect themselves and their cubs. One behavior that shows us this is that Cheetahs sprint really fast so they can get away from predators.

One of the adaptations to their environment is how it hunts. Cheetahs eat Antelope thanks to one adaptation in order for them to survive in their environment.

The picture I chose for this section is of a Cheetah hunting prey. One behavior that has allowed Cheetahs to be so fierce are its claws. Their claws help fend off attacks from Hyenas as well as make them the fastest running animal.

Some Cheetahs can be faster then other Cheetahs that are right beside you. This is another way that Cheetahs have adapted in order to survive in Africa.

Standard four: human Adaptations

I chose this picture because it is a recycling logo. If humans are going to save the environment they live in, they have to start reduce the amount of waste they produce, recycle that waste, and reuse things when we can. If we pledge to use less plastics and harmful chemicals by adapting our behavior, we can save what we have left of it for generations to come.

This picture also fits with standard four. I liked this picture but it painted a picture of just how wasteful humans can be!
