Inventions of the industrial revolution- Rachel Epps
Christopher Latham Sholes (Typewriter)
They were much more comfortable than writing by hand. Allowed people to write manuals for the workers and mass produce them much easier. Each key is one end of a lever. When the key is
pressed it pulls the stamp to the paper to print a letter.
Samuel Morse(Electrical telegraph)
Worked by whenever you pushed the key down it would complete the circuit and cause a reaction based on the key pressed.
Transformed the work of government and industries by bringing information transmission time down from weeks to days.
Louis Pasteur (bacteria, vaccination)
Found that microorganisms caused diseases and discovered how to make vaccines against the virus.
Helped protect the silk industry during the industrial revolution, by finding that microbes were attacking silkworm eggs causing a disease.
Edward Jenner (smallpox vaccine)
First ever vaccine for smallpox, by creating immunity by ejecting the virus into them before they could get it. Made from a cowpox blister which is similar to smallpox.
Helped prevent people from getting the disease or getting it so bad that they die. Made people healthier.
Sir Henry Bessemer (Steel process)
First ever method discovered for mass-production of steel. It took molten iron and and added compressed air to produce iron.
Used to make railroads, and was a stronger machine that could produce parts for agriculture. Also used for skyscrapers.
Eli Whitney (Cotton gin, interchangeable parts)
The cotton Gin was invented in 1793 to clean cotton from its seeds (took the seeds out of the fibers).
Greatly speed up the process of making cotton by removing the seeds faster and with less human effort. But because cotton production increased so did slavery.
The Interchangeable parts made it easier for unskilled workers to produce the product by making small parts.
James Watt (steam engine)
In 1764 Watt enhanced the old steam engine by providing a piston in the design that would make it more sturdy. His engine could still pump water but it was smaller and used less coal.
Influenced productivity and transportation, of water out of mines and made it safer and by the 1800’s were used throughout factories across England.
James Hargreave (spinning jenny)
Multi-spindle spinning frame that turned cotton into threads used for weaving clothes. Invented in 1770’s.
Greatly improved the speed in which clothes were produced and the quality in which they are produced in. Increasing the fashion industrias production and wealth.
