Beginning with the development in British agriculture during the 18th century due to the arrival of new and effective farming techniques caused the Agricultural Revolution.

Farmers were starting to use different tools like plows, seed drills, sickles which became an effective form of farming. This led to more supply of healthier and better foods. As a result, there was an increase in population in British.

Abundant natural resources encouraged the development of new machines and technology in Great Britain.

People used natural resources like coal and water to make better machines like steam engines by James Watt, water mills. Invention of the steam engine led to use of trains and railroads for faster transportation. Moreover, Canals were made and coal were used for making better iron. As a result, more machines were built due to vast supplies of natural resources and raw materials as well as faster transportation.

Middle and Higher class people started to invest in railroads, mining and factories rather than slave trade. This caused the use of capital towards factory development.

The result of the new machine and business started to be more successful. Those with money invested in them for profit. Many factories were made where new machines were more productive than humans. Textile factories improved due to machines like water frames, spinning jenny, and flying shuttle developed between 1730-1800. As a result, factories and industries developed more efficiently.

Increase in factories,industries caused rapid urbanization and the emergence of new social classes.

Many farmers and workers migrated to cities for jobs due to changes in farming, more demand of workers. Farmers faced many challenges due to harsh new working conditions in factories and mines. Along with that a new middle class, who owned the factories, mines and other industries, and the working class, laborers, were created. The owners had a comfortable life while the laborers struggled in the capitalist society. As a result, hierarchy of employee and employer was created.

Factory workers had to face harsh conditions, low sanitation, disease like cholera, accidents while working.

Children from every family had to work in factories, mines, houses with low wages and poor conditions to earn some money to support themselves.

Children above five worked in mines, factories and other jobs to contribute some portion in family income so their family didn't starve. Owners paid them low wages under poor conditions and even used violence. Moreover children were small and didn't complain so they were used for coal mining, chimney sweeping, cleaning machines for more than 12 hours. As a result, child labor was accepted and wildley practiced.

Women tried to work in factories to earn rather than household works but were treated unequally than male when it came to factory works.

Along with men, women also tried to work to earn some income. However, society wanted women to work in the household. Women didn’t have opportunities for all kinds of jobs like men. They especially worked in cottage industries. According to the information of Shanghai’s Industries, 1929, the number of women workers was 84,270 while 23,064 were male workers in the cotton industry. . Moreover, women were treated unequally when it comes to wages, working hours and how they were treated . They wanted socialism rather than capitalism. As a result, women wanted to change that bring reformation.

Factory women rebel against the factory owners for poor and unequal working conditions they faced.

The anger of women to the form of rebellion. Feminist and women did strike and rallies so the factory owner would bring changes. They sabotage factory machines. They aimed to bring proper wages, working hours, compensation and environment. As a result, Government and factory owners had to change to calm the women.

Factory Acts and laws were passed out for working hours and working conditions for childrens and women.

In 1830s child labor reform called “Factory Acts” was mandatory. Later more laws were passed to decrease working hours for women and children, children were required to get education, compensation for work injuries, prohibiting children between eleven and thirteen from working more than forty-eight hours a week. As a result, there was a better working system than before for workers including male.

The industrial revolution between 1760 - 1840 brought both negative and positive effects for the working class and for society.

The early industrial age brought many hardships to the people, especially workers. There were more supplies of items and jobs but there was poor working condition, pollution, disease, injuries and death. It was a capitalist society and workers couldn’t do anything while factory owners were enjoying their comfortable life and the country was being richer than non industrial countries. However, the Labor union helped to change that. Workers bargained for proper condition and reformation making it better for workers.
