History of Pan-Slavism
The idea of Pan-Slavism started in Prague. The upper class came to this idea when the uprising of political nationalism. Decades later the only thing that the Yugoslavian Communists could think of to rally their people was this vague idea of creating an alliance with other Slavic countries. It was a unique idea of mutual discord. In the end it only caused many bloody conflicts and lots of tragedy.
Bosnia Crisis
Another factor of this large nationalism was not just from Serbia but also from Bosnia. Austria-Hungary wanted to annex and take over Bosnia. Austria-Hungary made a deal with Russia that as long as Russia did nothing during the annexation they would open back up the Dardanelles water way. Other countries had mobilized their army but Russia was not ready so they had to back down from the deal but they had also violated the Slavic Union.
Black Hand
An origination that sprouted from Pan-Slavism was the black hand an organization that assassinator the archduke of Austria-Hungary. They weren't very professional until 1911 but were said to have been formed in the 1800's.
Pan Slavism Now
Many countries are against it and it was only used to for political dominance over it's people. The soviet union only used it to suppress the smaller Slavic countries around it. In Russia it led to a very gruesome war in Chechnya during 1991-1994.
