Mathias McGinnis - WWI weapons changed how wars would be fought
Uniforms changed drastically in WWI
Uniforms changed to fit the needs of world war one. Changes were made to all aspects of the outfits including helmets, less bold colors, changes to the torso area and different pants. This shows how countries had to adapt to new ways of fighting a war
Planes in WWI
This image shows new WWI planes and how they were used in war. It says that a machine gun on the plane fired in harmony with the propeller. This helps my claim because it shows new technology in WWI
Trench warfare in WWI
Trench warfare was a new war strategy introduced in WWI. two sides would spend months and thousands of lives trying to take a few meters or very few kilometers of land. This shows how the opposing sides adapted to new weapons and strategies in WWI
Tanks in WWI
Tanks were not infamous weapons of war when they were first introduced. They broke down easily and frequently. But as the war progressed tanks played a huge role in WWI. Especially helping the allies who made thousands of tanks. These war machines changed wars because of their destructive nature and thick skin.
Chemical Warfare in WWI
Chemicals such as chlorine and mustard gas were used in WWI. These chemicals were dangerous and had effects that lasted long past WWI. using chemicals is very unethical, but they were used anyway. This helps my claim because chemicals shaped different battles and were a very powerful weapon to use.
Dreadnoughts in WWI
The dreadnought does exactly what the name says. It instills dread upon the nations fighting against it. Dreadnoughts were huge battle ships maned by hundreds. These ships could turn the tide in almost any battle, land, air, or sea. Their only drawbacks were their price and another class of ships called super dreadnoughts. These ships shaped a few battles and introduced the idea of huge warships.
Zeppelins in WWI
Large blimps or zeppelins were used in WWI. They were used to drop bombs on cities far away with medium success. They were preferred over planes because of the altitude they could reach. They were useful to the Germans and helped them a lot in war
Machine Guns in WWI
Machine guns made a big debut in WWI. They were crucial to trench warfare. They were used to keep enemy troops away from your trench. These were very useful in trench warfare and crucial to gaining land.
Artillery in WWI
Artillery cannon's were used in war to rain shrapnel down on advancing troops. It was crucial to knock out the artillery firing at you as soon as possible. Artillery units made wars very destructive and changed how troops must act to avoid the deadly cannons.
Mortars in WWI
Similar to artillery, mortars also rained shrapnel on enemy troops but at a lesser range. It was mainly used in trench warfare because it could rain projectiles onto the enemy's line from right above them. Mortars changed wars because it was a new weapon that people had to adapt to.
