The main source of solar energy comes from the sun. The sun's rays are used to produce energy that we use everyday. The sun is not just to help keep the world light but to also provide energy to people.
Solar Panels
Solar panels are used to convert the sun's rays to energy that we can use. Solar panels capture the electricity. Solar panels are used in a process called photovoltaic energy conversion. I will show you a model in the next exhibit.
Photovoltaic Conversion Model
Photovoltaic conversion is when electricity from the sun's rays gets converted into electricity that we use every day. First the solar panels move the electricity that they capture to the energy conditioning. After that either the energy can just be moved to energy storage for batteries and stuff like that. Or it can be moved to a place called energy distribution where it can be moved from there to be used for every day use energy or electric utility.
Solar Collectors
Solar collectors are collector that collect heat by absorbing sunlight. The sunlight is used toward heat in large spaces and things like hot water. The first solar thermal collector designed for building roofs was patented by William H. Goettl. Solar collectors are usually placed on top of peoples roofs.
This Is a Solar water heater model.
The sun's thermal energy heats the fluid in the solar collectors. Direct systems circulate water through solar collectors where it is heated by the sun. The heated water is then stored in a tank, sent to a tankless water heater, or used directly.
Concentrating collectors
Concentrating collectors use mirrored surfaces to concentrate the sun's energy on an absorber called a receiver. The mirrored surface focuses sunlight collected over a large area onto a smaller absorber area to achieve high temperatures. Concentrators perform best when pointed directly at the sun.
Solar Concentrating collectors model
Concentrating solar power plants generate electric power by using mirrors to concentrate (focus) the sun's energy and convert it into high-temperature heat. That heat is then channeled through a conventional generator. The plants consist of two parts: one that collects solar energy and converts it to heat, and another that converts the heat energy to electricity.
Solar Power does not pollute the air.
A benefit of solar energy is that it does not air pollute. That means that the air won't have disgusting stuff in it in which we can breathe in.
Map of where solar energy is found the most
People use solar energy the most in Germany. United states don't use as much as other places. It's found a lot near Africa.
