Thomas Mann (6.6.1875-12.8.1955) was a german writer. In 1929 he won the Nobel Proze for Literature. During the 3rd Reich he emigrated to Switzerland and later to the USA. He was one of the writers which books have been burned in 1933 by the Nazis. Famous Books are: Buddenbrooks, Death in Venice and Disorder and early sorrow. A lot of his books are about families. Most of them are inspired by his own family. For example: Buddenbrooks and Disorder and early sorrow.

The pacifist book describes the war in the view of a 19 year old young man named Paul who came directly from school to the front. It also explains the trauma the soldiers had during and after the war. The book based on Remarque’s experiences in the war.

Erich Maria Remarque (22.6.1898 – 25.10.1970) was a German Writer. When he was 18 he became a solider in the First World War. Remarque wrote a famous book about his experiences during the world war. It’s called “ All quiet on western front”. Like Bertolt Brecht his books were burned by the Nazis in 1933.

Buddenbrooks is a German novel written by Thomas Mann and published in 1901. It describes the life of a wealthy family in Lübeck of the 1870s. The book has similarities to the family of Thomas Mann. For his work on this book he won the Nobel Price for Literature in 1929.

Bertold Brecht (10.2.1898- 14.8.1956) was a German theatre practitioner. He came from Bavaria to Berlin where he founded the “Berliner Ensemble”. During 3rd Reich he emigrated. His books were also burned in 1933. Famous plays: The Threepenny Opera, Life of Galileo and Mother Courage and her children.

Disorder And Early Sorrow is a novella written by Thomas Mann and published in 1929. The book describes the life of the Abel Cornelius family during the hyperinflation in 1923. Like Buddenbrooks it has similarities to Mann’s family.

Erich Kästner (23.2.1899- 29.7.1974) was a German Writer. He is formally known for his poems and his books for children: Emil and the detectives, The flying classroom and Lisa and Lottie. His books were burned too but during 3rd Reich he didn’t emigrated he stayed in Nazi- Germany.
