In 2019, in a market in Wuhan, China a deadly disease was transmitted from an animal to a human. The disease gives you a dry cough, fever, and most notably, a loss of taste. Due to the condensed nature of living in the modern day, the virus spread like wildfire. Eventually, it spread to other countries through plane travel. The World Health Organization or the WHO for short, labeled this virus as COVID-19.
After writing Baba O’Reilly and Behind Blue Eyes, the WHO sent out a message to the countries of the world to quarantine people with the virus as an attempt to slow down the spread. The virus wasn’t super dangerous to young, healthy people. However, if you were over the age of 60, had a lowered immune system, were a baby, or any other health problem, the virus was potentially deadly. For the most part, people tried to stop the virus but the stubborn nature of Humans meant that they did not care about silly things like death and they didn’t quarantine as much as they should have. Eventually, in 2020 the virus made it to the United States and the CDC (Center for Disease Control) issued that everybody stay inside and quarantine themselves.
It was at this point that things started to go wrong. In Australia, it was so dry that bushes started spontaneously combusting. This was a big problem because fire hurts. Meanwhile, in America, President Donald Trump went on national television and told people that injecting themselves with disinfectant will make them immune to the virus. Needless to say, this is not true and it is actually extremely dangerous. Toward the end of 2020, people started getting antsy to leave their homes, so the WHO said that people can leave if they stay 6 feet away from everyone else and wear medical masks, then they went back to singing Pinball Wizard.
The people affected most by the virus were schoolchildren. Schools closed during the quarantine because being in close-packed rooms with a bunch of kids spreads viruses really fast. A company called ZOOM stepped in and gave schools the opportunity to teach children on video calls. This was given the acronym, NTI, or Non-Traditional Instruction. NTI was not as effective as traditional instruction because students weren’t able to pay as much attention when they were in their homes. Because of this, many students didn’t learn important and much-needed concepts.
In conclusion, Covid-19 basically paused most people’s lives and disrupted a lot. After COVID-19, procedures for locating, stopping, and preventing new viruses have been updated and are much more efficient. Due to the virus, a lot of people lost vital parts of education and it’s possible we may see the effects of that in the future. The WHO says that the kids are all right, but The Offspring says that the kids are not all right, so it’s really a 50-50 at this point. Overall, living through COVID was not fun and it might lead to some people not being as educated as well as people not having as good social skills as they should from being in quarantine for so long.
