Article 48 was one of the many Weimar Republic's weaknesses. It allowed the Reich to gain authority to rule in case of an emergency, bypassing the elected Reichstag. However it did not state which situations could be considered emergencies. This was abused multiple times by Hindenburg and became the cause of why Hitler "legally" took total control of Germany.
Proportional Representation
Proportional Representation was a democratic electoral system, which allowed multiple parties to be elected by the Reichstag. These usually did not have a clear majority, which meant most parties had to form coalitions. These often disagreed on laws and policies due to their different point of view which made it extremely hard to govern.
Powerful Democracy
Article 1 of the Weimar Republic stated that Germany was to be a democracy. As shown in the picture, for the first time in Germany, women were also able to vote and the voting age was reduced from 25 to 21.
Balanced Constitution
The constitution was carefully made so that no person or group could have too much power. People like the president or the Reichstag still had power and could choose and control various things and people, they just did not have so much power that they could abuse it or use it in a wrong way.
