9/11 was the point where everything changed in American society, because of the scale of this egregious terrorist attack many bills were passed into law that give the government too much power. This in turn caused more criminals who may have not been criminals before.

Broken windows theory was introduced by James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling, this theory concludes that signs of wear, neglect, or vandalism including broken windows correlate with higher crime rates due to lack of law enforcement.
