he German Historical Museum is Germany’s national history museum. Located in Berlin’s historic centre, it sees itself as a place for lively communication and discussion of history.
The German Historical Museum was founded in 1987 on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city of Berlin by the then Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Berlin. As part of the treaty for German reunification, the buildings and collections of the Museum of German History (MfDG), the central history museum of the GDR, were transferred to the German Historical Museum. With the reunification in 1990, the German Historical Museum became an all-German museum for history.
